The Center for Community Learning supports civic engagement for UCLA undergraduates and faculty through the integration of teaching, research and service alongside community partners.
The Center actively promotes good citizenship, leadership and social justice through service learning, internships and other community-based learning experiences.
In collaboration with campus academic departments, the Center offers UCLA undergraduates the opportunity to participate in civic engagement through a variety of structured, rigorous academic courses that link theory with practice. The research interests of faculty and students are connected to the needs and priorities of community partners throughout Los Angeles and in the state, nation and larger global community.
These activities foster civic skills and knowledge, a service ethic, and an informed perspective on issues of diversity and democracy. By so doing, UCLA fulfills its obligation as a public institution to educate persons who are good global citizens.
In addition, the Center offers an ongoing development program for faculty in order to enhance their knowledge of civic engagement, create a climate of reciprocal benefit and acknowledge their expertise in training UCLA undergraduates. Individual consultation is available for faculty who wish to develop new service learning courses or revise existing ones.
The Center for Community Learning offers a 495 to train graduate students in community learning pedagogy.

The UCLA Graduate Student Resource Center (GSRC) is a Graduate Students Association (GSA) initiative that is managed by Student Affairs. The GSRC is a resource, referral and information center for graduate and professional school students. They offer advice and assistance in dealing with the challenges of graduate school, as well as a number of workshops and programs done in collaboration with our campus partners. The GSRC works with GSA to organize the campus-wide Graduate Student Orientation and the Equity, Inclusion & Diversity Graduate Welcome Day. They are also the home of the Graduate Writing Center.

The Graduate Writing Center offers a variety of workshops and programs throughout the year. During the summer, they offer various dissertation “boot camps” for graduate students working on dissertation proposals and dissertations. For master’s thesis writers in humanities and social sciences, they offer a master’s thesis writing program. They also organize independent writing groups in winter quarter, primarily for doctoral students.
The GWC offers FREE appointments with friendly, experienced writing consultants to all registered UCLA graduate and professional school students.

If you are like the majority of UCLA graduate students, you will undertake the role of a Teaching Assistant at some point during your graduate career. Becoming a successful TA is a skill that requires practice, preparation, and the collection of feedback and suggestions for improvement. The TA Training Program website is designed to answer your questions and direct you to helpful resources.

The Collegium of University Teaching Fellows (CUTF) is an innovative program that creates unique learning opportunities for both graduate students and undergraduate students on campus. Through the program, some of UCLA’s very best advanced graduate students have the opportunity to develop and teach a lower division seminar in their field of specialization on a one-time only basis. This experience serves as a “capstone” to the teaching apprenticeship, preparing them for the academic job market and their role as future faculty. At the same time, undergraduates enrolled in CUTF seminars have the chance to take courses that are at the cutting edge of a discipline and to experience the benefits of participating in a small-seminar environment.
For students interested in attending a CUTF seminar, please visit the UCLA Registrar’s page.
