CIRTL@UCLA is a member of the international CIRTL Network comprising over 40 institutions that provides professional development for future educators in higher education to adopt inclusive, evidence-based teaching strategies. Many CIRTL alumni have careers in academia, industry, and non-profit since the lessons you learn in CIRTL transcend beyond academia by helping you improve as a researcher, mentor, colleague, and leader. The CIRTL Certification Program is open to graduate students, postdocs, and early career faculty across all disciplines.

Joining the CIRTL Network offers participants the following benefits:

The CIRTL Certificate Program comprises three different levels: Associate, Practitioner, and Scholar. Participate up to the level of your choice! Each level has their own learning goals:

  • Associate:
    • Identify and describe evidence-based teaching strategies to improve learning for all undergraduate students
    • Adopt an inclusive mindset and teaching practice to build and promote a student-centered learning environment
    • Recognize how institutional structures and policies can impact student success and accessibility to learning
    • Reflect on and describe their personal teaching philosophy
  • Practitioner:
    • Review published literature on evidence-based teaching strategies
    • Build an understanding of research ethics related to studies on human subjects
    • Design assessments to investigate the efficacy and impact of a teaching intervention on student learning
    • Develop advanced teaching skills by adopting reflective practices
  • Scholar:
    • Analyze quantitative and qualitative data to assess the effectiveness and impact of a teaching intervention on student learning
    • Communicate and present their education-based research project to a broad audience in a formal public setting, such as a symposium or conference
